This call went to all Metro Schools families and employees on Friday, July 1, 2016, Dr. Joseph’s first day on job.
This is Dr. Shawn Joseph, the new Director of Metro Nashville Public Schools. It is a great honor to speak to you tonight at the end of my first official day on the job.
Though we still have more than a month until the first day of school, my staff and I have been busy for weeks. We are working to make this district better. Every child in Nashville deserves a high-quality education and all of the opportunities in life that come with it – and we are going to work ambitiously to achieve that goal.
You may have noticed that we are strengthening our engagement in the community by bringing parents, teachers and our business partners to the table for important decisions about schools and the district.
I want to personally invite you to join the conversation this summer by attending one of our “Listen & Learn” sessions, which are scheduled in all parts of Nashville in July and early August. I hope that you and your family will attend at least one and participate. There will be free childcare available and even a popsicle party. You can visit the website MNPSDirector.org to see the exact dates and locations.
Speaking of websites, we are building a brand new district website to serve families and staff better. It is being created with you in mind, so that important information is easy to access. Look for that starting August 1st with additional improvements to come throughout the fall.
We want to make it easier to stay engaged in school because we need all of Nashville engaged in our work. This city has proven that it values education. Working together, we will build a world-class school system for our children.
So enjoy the rest of your summer. I hope to see you at the “Listen & Learn” meetings, and I look forward to kicking off a great new school year on August 3rd.
Thank you and good evening.
